Conditional sentences वो Sentence होते हैं जिसमे हम ज्ञात कारक या काल्पनिक स्थितियों और उनके परिणामों पर चर्चा करते हैं.

हम इसका प्रयोग ये बताने के लिए करते हैं की कोई भी बात सच है या इसलिए होता है क्यूकि कुछ और बात सच है या होता है. जैसे:

1. अगर रिया आएगी तो मैं उसे कॉपी दे दूंगी.

2. अगर वह डॉक्टर को बुलाता तो वह बच जाता.

3. मेरे पास पैसा होता तो मैं एक मोबाइल खरीद लेता.

4. यदि मैं अमीर होता तो तुम्हारी सहायता कर देता.

5. यदि मुकेश मेहनत करता तो परीक्षा पास हो जाता.

Conditional Sentences Definition

Conditional sentences से हम Condition बताते हैं. एक का होना दूसरे पर depend करता है.

इन वाक्यों में possible and typical, probable, hypothetical (cannot happen or is unlikely to happen), unreal or impossible condition का reference पाया जाता है।

Something is true or occurs only if something else is true or occurs i.e. only if a given condition is met.

A Conditional sentence includes a conditional clause ( if-clause) and a consequence (then-clause). Hindi में “if clause” अगर/यदि से स्टार्ट होता है और “then clause” तो/तब से start होता है.

English में आप “then” को drop कर सकते हैं लेकिन “if” को नहीं. वहीं Hindi में आप “अगर/यदि” को drop कर सकते हैं लेकिन “तो/ तब “ को नहीं.

Conditional Sentences in Hindi Examples

चलिए Conditional Sentences के कुछ Examples देखते हैं:

1. अगर रिया आएगी तो मैं उसे कॉपी दे दूंगी.

If Riya comes, I will give her the copy.

2. अगर वह डॉक्टर को बुलाता तो वह बच जाता.

If he had called the doctor, he would have survived.

3. मेरे पास पैसा होता तो मैं एक मोबाइल खरीद लेता।

If I had money, I would have purchased a mobile.

4. यदि मैं अमीर होता तो तुम्हारी सहायता कर देता.

Had I been rich, I would have helped you.

5. यदि अंकुश ने मेहनत किया होता तो परीक्षा पास हो जाता।

If Ankush had worked hard, he would have passed the exam.

Types of Conditional Sentences

Conditional Sentences के चार प्रकार के होते हैं।

1. Zero Conditional Sentences (0)

2. First Conditional Sentences (1st )

3. Second Conditional Sentences (2nd )

4. Third Conditional Sentences (3rd )

एक और Conditional Clause होता है जो कि ऊपर के किसी दो different clauses को मिलाकर बनता है उसको हम लोग बोलते हैं.

5. Mixed Conditional (Combination of 2 Clauses)

Zero Conditional Sentences

Zero Conditional Sentences सामान्य सत्यों को व्यक्त करते हैं— वे Situations जिनमें एक चीज हमेशा दूसरी को पैदा करती है.

इसमें आप किसी विशेष घटना की बजाय एक सामान्य सत्य (absolute facts or general truths ) के बारे में बात कर रहे हैं। ऐसे वाक्यों में कोई Condition लागू नहीं होती है।

Rule: If/When + Simple Present Tense (if cluse or conditional clause), Simple Present Tense (then clause or consequence Clause).

Examples:

जब हम पानी को गर्म करते हैं तो वह भाप में बदल जाता है।

When we heat water, it turns into vapour.

जब हम सिगरेट पीते हैं, तो हमारे स्वास्थ्य में कमी होती है।

When we smoke cigarettes, our health suffers.

Note: Zero conditional में Simple present Tense का प्रयोग किया जाता है। एक Common Mistake है कि Simple Future Tense का प्रयोग करते हैं जो गलत है.

ध्यान दें कि Zero Conditional में if और when को interchangeably use किया जा सकता है। क्युकी अगर Condition पूरी होती है तो Result हमेशा Same होता है; if और when में कोई difference नहीं होता.

First Conditional Sentences

First Conditional Sentences वैसे Situations को व्यक्त करने के लिए use होते हैं जिनमें परिणाम संभावित (possibility) है, लेकिन गारंटी नहीं है (not guaranteed) कि भविष्य (future) में होगा या नहीं ।

ऐसे वाक्यों में if clause or conditional clause को Present Indefinite tense में तथा then clause or consequence clause को Future Indefinite tense में बनाते हैं. ‘तो’ या ‘तब‘ के स्थान पर comma ( , ) लगाते हैं।

Rule: If/When + Simple Present Tense (if clause or conditional clause), Future Present Tense (then clause or consequence Clause).

Examples: अगर आप आराम करते हो, तो आप स्वस्थ हो जाओगे।

If you take rest, you will be healthy.

यदि आप पढ़ना नहीं चाहते हैं तो आप सो सकते.

If you don’t want to study , you may sleep.

Second Conditional Sentences

Second Conditional Sentences वैसे Situations को व्यक्त करने के लिए use होते हैं जो पूरी तरह से अवास्तविक (unrealistic) हैं या जो भविष्य (future) में संभावित नहीं (unlikely to happen) होने के संकेत हैं। सिर्फ पूरी होने की केवल कल्पना की जाती है.

ऐसे वाक्यों में if clause or conditional clause को Past Indefinite tense में तथा then clause or consequence Clause को Modal Auxiliary (could, should, would, might etc.) में बनाते हैं.

Rule: If/When + Simple Past Tense (if clause or conditional clause), Modal Auxiliary (could, should, would, might etc.) (then clause or consequence Clause).

Examples:

यदि मुकेश के पास मोटरसाइकिल होती, तो वह पटना जाता.

If Mukesh had a motorcycle, he would go to Patna.

अगर मेरे पास 1 करोड़ होता, तो मैं एक अच्छा सा घर खरीदता

If I had one crore, I would buy a beautiful house.

Third Conditional Sentences

Third Conditional Sentences वैसे Situations को व्यक्त करने के लिए use होते हैं जो present circumstances में अलग होता अगर past में कुछ अलग हुआ होता.

एक तरीके इसे ये बोल सकते की पछतावे वाले Sentences होते हैं. ऐसे वाक्य में दोनों clauses के अन्त में क्रिया में ता , ती , ते लगा होता है. ऐसे वाक्यों में if clause or conditional clause को Past Perfect tense had + V3 में तथा then clause or consequence Clause को could, should, would, might etc + Have के साथ V3 में बनाते हैं.

Rule: If/When + Past Perfect Tense – {had+V3} (if clause or conditional clause), Would have or should have + V3 (then clause or consequence Clause).

Examples:

यदि आप बैंगलोर आते तो मैं आपको ऑफिस ले जाता.

If you had come to Bangalore, I should have taken you to the office.

यदि वह परीक्षा देता तो आसानी से पास कर जाता.

If he had given the exam, he would have easily passed.

Note: कभी – कभी then clause or consequence Clause को Passive Voice में भी बनाते हैं और इसमें have + been + V3 use करते हैं । यदि वह चुनाव जीत गया होता तो उसका अभिनन्दन किया जाता। If he had won the election, he would have been welcomed.

Mixed Conditional Sentences

Generally यह second and third conditionals को combine करके बनता है.

Example: “If I had studied harder in school (Past Perfect), I would have a better job now (would + base form of verb)

Points to Remember : Exceptions

1. if-clause or conditional clause में simple future का use

अगर if-clause का action, consequence Clause के action के बाद आता है तो if-clause में simple future का use होता है

अगर मेडिसिन मेरे दर्द को कम करेगी, तो मैं आज ले लूँगा।” If the medicine will lower my pain, I will take it today.

2. Use of As if

अगर वाक्य में मानो या जैसा कि हो तो उसका मीनिंग as if लिखते हैं अगर if-clause का action, consequence Clause Present tense है तो सभी कर्त्ताओं के साथ were का प्रयोग करते हैं और यदि Past tense है तो had been का प्रयोग करते हैं ।

तुम ऐसे लगते हो मानो एक परी हो। You seems as if you were an angel.

तुम ऐसे लगते थे मानो एक परी हो। You seemed as if you had been an angel.

3. If-Clause के साथ will or shall का प्रयोग नहीं करते.

4. ‘If’ और ‘then’ clause में If के बाद ‘तो’ (then) के लिए comma(,) लगा सकते.

5. कुछ Clauses में Should का meaning If होता है

6. Fictional Condition के लिए singular Subject के साथ भी plural verb का ही प्रयोग करते है.

यदि वह मेरे स्थान पर होता तो रो पड़ता ।

If he were at my place, he would cry.
